One week carp fishing on the Mayenne river ended with a magical evening when I banked my first 30lb river carp. Read the full story: http://www.frenchcarpandcats.com/blog... My river carp fishing campaign started properly in May-June this year and following a few losses last year, this year I’ve decided to be much more conservative with how far out I fish. This year I’ve dropped back to around 5m or more in front of the marginal cover (last year, I was fishing 2m in front but at 80 yards range, even with braided mainline, stopping them before disaster struck was not always possible). I’ve also changed to mono with a braided leader rather than the other way round as wind knots when casting where doing my head in and impacting my fishing. The swim I chose for that particular week is one I tried a few times last year and is one of my favourite swims on this stretch of the river as it gives me plenty of space either side to play the fish. And there’s always a boot moored up on the side which you will see on the video, proved extremely useful on multiple occasions! I’m very happy with my rig which I show in the video and in fact I’ll be doing a separate video on my river rig later on. I baited up throughout the week but only fished 3 late afternoon/evening sessions and in total caught 10 carp over the week including my first ever 30 pound river carp. I had a couple of mates join me for a while that enjoyed the fun of it, including seeing me out in the river in my pants! The fight and the challenge these river carp give is a truly unique experience. I hope you enjoy this video and that it gives you ideas and tips on how to fish for carp in rivers.
