The first time I heard this song, was at the age of 9, during my sister Cindy's wedding. The song gave me chills as it echoed around the church during the ceremony. I recall my mother crying; happy tears... My mind was filled with the memories of my sister living at home and a sudden sadness filled my heart, as I came to realize that she would now be living in her own home, starting her own family. I wept. So this song takes me back to that 9-year old boy, sitting the church pews, hearing this beautiful song, and going through strong emotions. My parent's recently celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary!! What a blessing! I pieced together this video for them, featuring "The Wedding Song (There Is Love)" with gorgeous images of couples' wedding rings, blooming "bleeding heart" flowers (a favorite of theirs, which they have growing in their backyard), and Our Lord, Jesus. Stookey is known as "Paul" in the folk trio Peter, Paul and Mary; however, he has been known by his first name, Noel, throughout his life. He continues to work as a singer and an activist, performing as a solo artist, and occasionally performing with Peter Yarrow. "The Wedding Song (There Is Love)" is a title of a 1971 hit single by Paul Stookey: the song—which Stookey credits to divine inspiration—has since been recorded by many singers (with versions by Petula Clark and Mary MacGregor returning it to the Billboard Hot 100)—and remains a popular choice for performance at weddings. Stookey had first performed the song at the wedding of Peter Yarrow—Stookey's co-member of Peter Paul & Mary—to Mary Beth McCarthy at Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Willmar, Minnesota. Stookey was best man at the ceremony, which took place in the evening of October 18, 1969. Stookey recorded "The Wedding Song (There Is Love)" for his solo album "Paul and", which was released on July 23, 1971. On this track he accompanied himself on a 12-string guitar tuned a tone and a half down. On June 28, 1971, "The Wedding Song" was issued as an advance single from the "Paul and" album.
