Close-up people voting STORYLINE: Eager American presidential voters in the critical swing state of Ohio got the chance to exercise the power of the ballot box Tuesday, as the state's early voting process got under way. In Franklin County, Ohio, where the state capital Columbus is located, some young Democrats determined to have their vote counted despite the soggy conditions camped out overnight in front of the county Board of Elections. Once the sun came up on Tuesday, more voters had gathered to count down the opening of Ohio's polls. First in line was Ilhan Dahir, a student from Hilliard, Ohio. "It was important to me," she said, "as a student and as a woman, I think this election is really important." Tuesday is more than a month before the traditional election day in the United States, the first Tuesday in November. Once prospective voters' identification was checked, hundreds of Ohio residents took advantage of the state's early voting and cast their ballots. "We would expect something similar to that this year."
