The protestors were from the Jamaat-e Islami, a hard-line Islamist party. Their leader Qazi Hussein Ahmed called on people around the world to force their rulers to help the Palestinians. He said that people should "force their rulers to do their duty for the Muslims and for the Palestinians." There were also protest rallies in the West Bank cities of Bethlehem and Ramallah, in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, and in Hong Kong. Gaza health officials say more than 820 Palestinians have been killed since Israeli attacks on Gaza began two weeks ago. Thirteen Israelis have also died.
