Snare Wire Comparison: 20 Strand vs. 10 Strand (Details in Description!)

Equipment used: Ludwig drums Zultan cymbals EVANS drumheads Vater drumsticks This was a test I made in order to see if there was any sonic differences between using the standard 20 strand snare wire and using the non-standard 10 strand snare wire. This was inspired by a rumour I heard about Steve Gadd. Gadd apparently didn't like using 20 strand snare wires and would cut them down to 10 strands. While Yamaha does sell a Steve Gadd signature snare wire, I decided to make one of my own using the snare wires that came with the drum. The result for me was that I was able to get a bit more tone out of the drum (14x5 Ludwig Breakbeat with EVANS HD Dry and EVANS snare side 300) whilst being able to keep the wires tight for snare articulation. How much of that comes through in the audio, I'm not sure. The audio was recorded using a ZOOM H2n recorder on to Reaper. The video was recorded and edited on a Lenovo ideapad 305 using the built-in web cam and editing software.
