DAYTON -- Actor Rob Lowe has been entertaining us for nearly 40 years now. But before he charmed us with his good looks and mountain of talent, he spent the first 12 years of his life in Dayton. His father still lives here. Deborah Linz recently spoke to Chuck Lowe about his famous son whose latest TV show airs right here on FOX 45. From "The Outsiders," to "St. Elmos Fire" to "The West Wing," we have seen Rob Lowe grow up on the small and big screens. But Rob actually grew up here in Dayton. His father, Chuck Lowe, is an attorney in Centerville and ironically Rob plays a famous actor who's a lawyer in the Fox show "The Grinder." Chuck Lowe says it fun being Robs dad. I get to go places I wouldn't otherwise get to go and meet people I otherwise wouldn't meet. Rob is completely deaf in his right ear. He has graced the covers of countless magazines since he was a teenager. Chuck initially thought his son's time in the spotlight would be short-lived. And surprisingly he just kept going and made the transition from a young actor to a teen heartthrob to an adult, Chuck Lowe said. But Chuck says he's proud of all three of his sons, including Chad, an actor/director in Hollywood and Justin, an artist in New York City. Rob is married to makeup artist Sheryl Berkhoff. They have two sons and next to his boys, Chuck says Rob is most proud of his sobriety, saying Rob hasn't touched alcohol in 25 years. He won't even eat rum cake. And the last time Rob and his brothers were together in Dayton was a few years ago for their father's 70th birthday. Chuck Lowe says Rob will come back to his hometown occasionally, When he has some time off. It's hard to compete with Tahiti or Hawaii, but when he comes to Dayton he loves being here.
