"It Takes Two" not working for individual joycon 2 player mode. Please help?

I am having issues playing "It Takes Two" using my pair of joycon with one per each player. Is this game not compatible that way? I'm confused. Can someone else with a Switch and "It Takes Two" help me ? Thanks!
