All My Hope on God Is Founded--Michael Burkhardt - Kim Pace, organ

All My Hope on God Is Founded--Michael Burkhardt   The original words of this hymn were written in 1680 by Joachim Neander.  In 1930, the director of music at Charterhouse School in England sent the translated text to his friend, composer Herbert Howells, requesting he compose a new setting for use at the school.  Howells received the request by post one morning, in the middle of breakfast.  A tune came to him almost immediately and he said he composed it on the spot “while I was chewing bacon and sausage”.  Michael Burkhardt pays homage to Howells in this setting by quoting Howells’ Psalm Prelude, Op. 32, No. 1.
