The Radical Imagination: Imagine Revisiting 1968 (Todd Gitlin)

Concerns of racism, poverty and militarism have existed in the United States for decades, but the youth’s response to these issues has intensified and changed over time. This Sunday on The Radical Imagination; host Jim Vrettos, a sociology professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and Todd Gitlin, an iconic political activist from the 1960’s New Left movement, analyze this shift in attitude through an exploration of youthful rebellion, resistance and imagination over the years. Dr. Gitlin is a professor of journalism and sociology and the chair of the Ph.D. in Communications program at Columbia University. In addition, he has written 15 books, such as “The Sixties: Years of Hope, Days of Rage,” and hundreds of articles for publications like the New York Times, Washington Post and Boston Globe. Firehouse TV’s “The Radical Imagination” airs every Sunday at 8:00 pm on MNN1 (TWC 34 & 1995, RCN 82, FiOS 33) and MNN’s HD Community Channel (TWC 1993) or streaming live on mnn.org.
