Elvis Presley - Charro! - Movie opening Credits - Re-edited with RCA/Sony audio

The only song contained within the body of Elvis ' 1968 movie Charro! was played over the opening credits and from the very first few bars of the song they was no doubt that this was a western movie. The song was written by Billy Strange and Mac Davis and the orchestral arrangement by Strange, David Gates and the legendary Hugo Montenegro and provided by his orchestra, "Charro!" was recorded at Stage 7 of Samuel Goldwyn's Studios in Hollywood and in three parts in as many separate days with the basic track the first to be laid down in five takes on 15 October 1968 and it was the final fifth take used by Elvis in laying down his vocal ten days later at the same studio. Elvis ran through nine takes and in the end it was decided that the master take would be a splice of takes nine and five and although the original master was 3 minutes seven seconds this was faded twenty seconds earlier in the final master. The orchestral overdubs were added over the following two days after musical repairs to the original backing track followed by backing vocals being added at the same session. The song was first released as a single but it was November the following year before it found it's way onto an album, as the penultimate track on side 'B' of "Almost In Love" released among other movie soundtrack songs and recent studio recordings by RCA on their budget label "Camden".
