Teen sentenced in 2013 fatal DWI crash

A teen, who killed two young girls in a drunk driving crash, will serve less than a year in prison. A judge sentenced Wayne Lavato Monday as an adult in the deaths of 14-year-old Kayla Martinez and 12-year-old Aleandra Sanchez. Lovato was 17-years-old when he rolled his car on I-25 just south of Las Vegas, killing the girls and injuring six other passengers. State police said Lovato told officers on scene he’d been drinking before he got behind the wheel. The state wanted him to serve nine years, but a judge gave him 364 days in prison, plus a year on an ankle monitor and five years probation.
