Florida lawmakers are working on a bill that some say could help ease the state's shortage of affordable housing. Florida legislators are considering a bill that would require cities and counties to let single-family homeowners to build accessory dwelling units, sometimes called granny flats or mother-in-law cottages, on their property. The goal is to make housing in Florida more affordable for renters seeking lower-cost places to live and it would also allow homeowners to earn rental income and create more housing without building big apartment complexes.
