Since his introduction in 1940, the Joker has experienced numerous changes. The most prevalent version of the character is that he is a guy who is pursued by Batman while dressed as the criminal Crimson Hood and falls into a vat of chemicals, which bleaches his skin, turns his hair green, and turns his lips red, and drives him insane. The motivations for the Joker's transformation into the Red Hood, as well as his identity before to his transformation, have evolved over time.
