'Emergency closure' leads to massive cleanup of crime-ridden encampment near I-5 in Seattle
Following the enforcement of an "emergency closure" order, WSDOT cleaned up a crime-ridden homeless camp near the I-5 and I-90 interchange. In a day, WSDOT told KOMO News that nine truckloads of debris and trash were hauled away from the camp. Since January, 14 major fires occurred within the encampment, including four since the start of November. Additionally, KOMO News has covered numerous instances of crime, drug use, and SWAT standoffs at the camp. Earlier this year, Seattle police also found an altered shotgun in a camp known to distribute fentanyl. For more on the story: https://komonews.com/news/project-sea... -------------------------------------------------- 1:44 Nurses at Seattle Children’s Hospital are demanding immediate help from management because of what they are calling a crisis in pediatric mental health. The nurses' union, The Washington State Nurses Association, told KOMO News the Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine Unit “seems like a combat zone,” as it remains understaffed and struggles to help violent kids in the hospital. Nurses are demanding the hospital address it with more staff and boosted safety protocols. The union said Seattle police even had to intervene earlier in November after patients turned over carts, used a pole to swing at people, broke windows, and held a nurse in a chokehold. The hospital, in an emailed statement, acknowledged the youth's mental and behavioral health crisis. Over the last few months, it claims to have brought in extra staff and security and are seeking more travel nurses.
