Wildfires spread in the western Canadian province of British Columbia Friday, as the West Kiskatinaw River blaze threatened the evacuated community of Tumbler Ridge. Canada is enduring its worst start to the wildfire season, with 2,392 fires so far this year and 4.4 million hectares burned, according to the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Center, roughly 15 times the annual average over the last decade. The British Columbia Wildfire Service released aerial footage of the West Kiskatinaw River wildfire in the province's northeast, now estimated at a staggering 230 square kilometers.
