Virtual Vaudeville View 3: Mid Shot

VIRTUAL VAUDEVILLE transports viewers back to the year 1885 to watch a performance in the Union Square Theatre in New York City. The performer is Frank Bush, one of the most popular and representative comedians on the vaudeville circuit during that time who was, most famous for his "Stage Jew" character, which set the pattern for Jewish stereotypes in popular entertainment well into the 20th century. Interactive buttons on the video allow viewers can switch through eight different perspectives on the performance and to observe the reactions of spectators throughout the theatre, and also to read extensive historical notes and commentary. (Note that contextual annotations are available only on computers, not on tables or mobile devices.)
