"Finding the Line" is a mixed media art work by Jeff Stevenson made during an April 2011 Ragdale Residency. Graphite, acrylic paint and medium, and collage were used to create this 3.5 foot by 30 foot piece. Inspiration came from the Surrealist drawings called "The Exquisite Corpse". Each day for 10 days Jeff Stevenson worked on a 3 foot section of the roll of paper and at the end of each day the completed section was rolled up to hide it prior to the next day's work; only connecting lines were exposed to continue the work the next day. In this way the artist could start anew and respond to the subconscious mind and vision of that moment finding inspiration in memory, scavenging vast image files, and current news events such as the Japanese tsunami.
