Evening Forecast for Wednesday 6:24:15

Strong storms with heavy rain in spots are returning across the area and will remain so into the evening hours. Be alert of any storm warnings that pop up where you live by getting the new and FREE StormTrack 8 Weather App Additional storms are already evolving in the Hawkeye state and extending east along a warm front that is currently located to our south and west. I expect these storms to follow each other or 'train' along the Interstate 80 corridor and points south this evening. This latest activity could minimize the threat of severe weather for our local area tonight with the primary threat being wind gusts of over 40 mph. Heavy rainfall will remain an issue with spots receiving at least one to four inches especially south of the Quad Cities. Expect lighter amounts farther north. Areas where rotating storms are likely could be along the Iowa/Missouri border into Western Illinois by this evening. These storms will be long lasting resulting in the potential for an isolated tornado. After this evening most of the storms will become heavy rainmakers for most of the night before the intensity of the rain diminishes. By Thursday, all of the storms will exit and move out of our area by sunrise on Thursday with a much calmer weather pattern heading into the weekend. Chief meteorologist James Zahara
