HOMILY IN ENGLISH THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME 25th JANUARY 2026 Reading 1: Isaiah 8:23-9:3 Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 26:1, 4, 13-14 Reading 2: 1 Corinthians 1:10-13, 17 Gospel: Matthew 4:12-23 Jesus the Light of the World We do not know what the future holds, but we feel in our hearts that we are drawn to a particular way of life. Vocations are not formed by a university degree or apprenticeship but are felt in the heart and the gut long before a decision is made. The mystery of how that happens remains. We have to change when we are called; as St John Henry Newman said: To be human is to change; to be perfect is to have changed often. Jesus went around the whole of Galilee healing the sick, teaching the Good News and proclaiming the kingdom. We are called to do the same but as we know our discipleship is often fragile. “Life is fragile, handle with prayer.” Let us pray: Almighty ever-living God, direct our actions according to your good pleasure, that in the name of your beloved Son we may abound in good works.
