Salman Rushdie left severely injured after being attacked in New York

Novelist Salman Rushdie is said to be severely injured after he was attacked on stage at a New York event. Mr Rushdie remains on a ventilator, according to his agent, with a damaged liver, severed nerves and risk of losing an eye. Police have identified the suspect as Hadi Matar, a 24-year-old man from New Jersey. New York State Police Major Eugene Staniszewski said the police don’t have any indication of a motive for the stabbing at this time but are working with the FBI and the sheriff’s office to determine the cause.
