We Finally Sanitized Our RV Tank After 18 Months (Here's What We Found)

Hi everyone! We're Nathan and Fabiola (an international RV couple, Michigan + Brazil) traveling across the country full-time in our first RV (a brand new Brinkley Model Z 3515), sharing our RV life with you, and learning as we go. Confession time: after a year and a half of full-time RV life, we have never once sanitized our freshwater tank. Not once. So today, we're finally fixing that, and we're taking you through every step of how to do it the easy way — using a completely bleach-free method that's safe for your grass, safe for your plumbing, and (importantly) safe for your tank. We're using the Blu Technology bleach-free tank sanitizing packets — the same brand that makes the AR3 water filter we installed a few weeks ago. It's the only NSF-certified, EPA-approved sanitizer we've found that works with reverse osmosis and water softener systems, and it has no chlorine, oxidizers, or acids that can corrode your rig over time. Because it's bleach-free, we were able to drain the whole thing right into Nathan's mom's yard (with permission!) instead of having to haul it to a proper dump site. In this video we walk through the full process: emptying the current freshwater, adding the sanitizing packets directly through the filter canister (which is way easier than the bucket method), refilling the tank, letting it sit 15 minutes, draining, refilling again, drain, and swapping the taste filter back in.
