A Guzheng is a Chinese zither instrument, this one has 16 steel strings and is usually played plucked. The wife and I have wanted a Japanese Koto for a long time but haven't been able to find one at a decent price so we went with this. It was posted to us without any packaging in it's case so it arrived a bit smashed up unfortunately. I worked for 20 years as a joiner so luckily I was able to patch it up. There are a few photos of it before and after repair on my Instagram if you'd like to see that horror show. It's not an instrument I've played before so I decided to experiment a bit with it this morning and settled on playing it with rubber beater that came with a glockenspiel I have tucked away in a corner somewhere. By holding them gently it's possible to allow them to bounce to rapidly replay the same note. There are 2 layers of Guzheng here recorded with a Studio Electronics SE7 mic matched pair into my Focusrite 18i8 panned left and right. I didn't plan it that way, I just forgot to record the video for one of them so used both audio takes. Sounds nice like that though I think :) The Bastl Kaslte Drum is being sequenced from the Korg Volca Modular here and reverb is added to that with the free custom Haze reverb on the Korg Nts1. The Volca Bass and Keys add the other elements. The prototype board isn't doing a huge amount here as most of the stuff on the board is not connected. It's just the potentiometer shown in the video below altering the trigger level from the Volca Modular to the Kastle Drum as it alters the sound palette a little.
