Be aware of fireworks safety, dangers

Baltimore leaders are urging residents and visitors to be safe this holiday weekend. Each year, thousands of people -- most often children and teens -- are injured while using fireworks. City leaders said to leave the fireworks to the professionals and come down to the Inner Harbor to enjoy the festivities. Despite the dangers of fireworks, few people understand the associated risks, such as devastating burns, injuries, fires and even death. Officials said that many of the injuries caused by fireworks involve the head, face, eyes, hands, arms, legs and the buttocks. Baltimore fire officials said fireworks started an estimated 12,264 fires in 2021, including 2,082 structure fires.
