Tigresses, Lady Bulldogs continue to dominate

Defending champions University of Santo Tomas’ Sisi Rondina and Babylove Barbon and National University’s rookie pair of Kly Orillaneda and Antonette Landicho maintained their perfect slate in Day 3 of the UAAP Women’s Beach Volleyball Tournament at the Sands SM By the Bay. Three-peat seeking Rondina and Barbon made short work of winless Unviersity of the East’s Sean Ritual and Dona Nebrea (21-4, 21-7). Gunning for her fourth UAAP championship, Rondina emphasizes that there should be no letting up in a brutal sport like beach volleyball. “Always lang talagang nasa isip namin na kapag pumuta ka sa laban kailangan ang mindset mo mananalo ka at di mo makukuha ang panalo na yun kung hindi mo tatrabahuhin,” said Rondina. “Itinodo na lang namin kasi mas malaki ang opportunity na manalo kung uunahan mo eh. Malakas man o mahina siyempre lalaban pa rin kami. Ako talaga ayokong mapapahiya ang team, ayokong mapahiya ang school namin. Nasa akin kasi ayoko talagang matalo eh,” the elite beach volleyball star added. Orillaneda and Landicho continued to surprise, dumping Far Eastern University’s Marianne Calinawana and Ivana Agudo (21-11, 21-15) University of the Philippines’ Isa Molde and Justine Dorog stayed on pace for a return trip to the Final Four, surviving Adamson University’s Hannah Infante and Grazelle Ave (19-21, 21-13, 15-12). De La Salle University’s Michelle Morente and Tin Tiamzon maintained hold of solo third place with a rousing victory over Ateneo De Manila University’s Ponggay Gaston and Jules Samonte (21-14, 25-23).
