TOPIC: IS THE LOVE OF CHRIST YOUR GREATEST TREASURE? First Reading: Exodus 34: 29-35 Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 99: 5, 6, 7, 9 Alleluia: John 15: 15b Gospel: Matthew 13: 44-46 In today’s Gospel reading we are told by means of two parables two ways in which people who come across something of great value and what they do to secure their ownership of the treasure and the pearl. The first man unexpectedly stumbled onto the treasure while the other was seeking and searching for pearls. The first man who stumbled upon a treasure in the field may be compared to people who found the truth about Christ while hidden from view. All around this man are people who see only the field, but they do not look below the surface to see the hidden treasure. Becoming aware of the treasure that is Christ, he sells all that he has to acquire the field. The pearl merchant, on the other hand goes forth to seek the pearl of great price, then finding the pearl that is Christ, sells all that he has and acquire the pearl that is God. Both the man in the field and the pearl merchant had taken time and thought to acquire things that are most important and gave up everything they had in the process. They both had great joy in doing so, not thinking about all about the cost. Such is the pleasure of acquiring God. This is the 1201st installment of our CFC contemplation series focusing on the daily liturgical readings. [NOTE: As we continue to pray for Bro Bong Arjonillo’s healing and recovery, let us listen to our brother Raymond Bucu, CFC Gateway Evangelization Head, as he brings us today's reflection.] All the regular reflections are between 3-7 minutes long, enough time for us to ponder what God's message is for us individually and to pray that we may live them out in our lives.
