The Holy Eucharist: Rite II on The Twelfth Sunday after Pentecost, August 11, 2024 at 11 a.m., at Calvary Episcopal Church, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Reverend Bonnie-Marie Yager-Wiggan, Associate Rector, was the preacher. Assisting: The Reverend Jonathon W. Jensen, Rector, The Reverend Geoffrey S. Royce, Deacon,The Reverend Deanna J. Briody, Curate, Ethan LaPlaca, Organist. Musical Note: Warm thanks to Ethan LaPlaca for playing the organ this morning and next week, during the Choir’s trip to Lincoln Cathedral. Just over 40 singers are assembling today in the United Kingdom, and making their way to Lincoln, about 150 miles north of the capital. Tomorrow they begin a week-long residency at the cathedral, singing the daily service of Evensong and the Sunday morning service, during the “native” choir’s summer recess. The cathedral, crowning the top of a hill upon which a city has grown up to surround it, is nearly a thousand years old, and has survived many vicissitudes of time, including damage by earthquake, wind, and fire across its long history. (It was for nearly 250 years the tallest building in the world—until a windstorm toppled the spire, and demoted the building’s status.) Nonetheless, the Victorian critic John Ruskin described it as, “out and out the most precious piece of architecture in the British Isles.” Sunday services (at least) are livestreamed via their YouTube channel: / @lincolncathedraluk .
