They Sing The Blues In Kansas City is my salute to one of the greatest of the jazz cities. In what kind of place does the mayor buy Birds alto sax to erect a monument in the park (adjacent to the historic jazz neighborhood around 18th and Vine)? A place that takes jazz and blues very seriously. A place where my friend David Basse can sing, lead a band and run City Light records which, with this one, has released four Mike Melvoin CDs!
