Sinners are reconciled to God in Christ. Notice that in the passage above that “God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ” (2 Corinthians 5:19). In Christ is a common phrase for Paul. As believers, we are in Christ. And, being in Christ, his experience becomes our experience. With Christ, we experience his crucifixion, burial, and resurrection (Romans 6:1-10). And now we sit with Christ at the right hand of the Father (Colossians 3:1-4). It is as we come into Christ that we experience reconciliation with God. Christ has created in himself a new humanity. And it is that new humanity that experiences reconciliation with God (Ephesians 2:14-16). The old humanity, represented by the fallen Adam, is broken. It is the new humanity, in Christ, that is reconciled to God.
