The Witcher III PS5 Backwards Compatibility Gameplay Performance Test

The Witcher III PS5 Backwards Compatibility Gameplay Performance Test

On the PlayStation 4, the Witcher III's resolution was 1080p and the frame rate was set to 30fps with drops. With a PlayStation 4 Pro and a 1080p display, the resolution for the Witcher III was 1080p at 30fps. At this resolution, the PS4 Pro was able to maintain 30fps. With a 4K TV or Supersampling Mode enabled, the resolution for the Witcher III is increased to 2160p with checkerboard rendering. Because of the increase of resolution, there would be times where the frame rate would drop below 30fps. For this video, it appears that the resolution is set to 1080p. I'm playing on a 1080p display and there doesn't appear to be a way to enable Supersampling Mode like on the PlayStation 4 Pro. That being said, load times appear faster thanks to the PS5's SSD. It took about a minute to boot the game up and get to my last save. The Witcher III will be getting an update for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in 2021, so when that update is available, I will download it and do another performance test. I'm hoping there's at least a 60fps option. On Xbox One X you could play this game at 1080p targeting 60fps. Because that mode was available on Xbox One X, those with an Xbox Series X can play the Witcher III locked at 60fps. I've played the Witcher III on PC and it's pretty jarring seeing this game run at 30fps no matter the resolution. For me, that's the option I want most. This is the Witcher III for the PlayStation 4 running on a PlayStation 5. The recording is in 1080p and 30fps. Gameplay captured from a PS5. Let me know what you think in the comments below.
