India Immunization Summit 2023

India Immunization Summit 2023

Diseases such as polio and smallpox that once killed thousands of children, have been eliminated – primarily due to safe and effective vaccines. Immunization is one of the most effective and cost-effective ways to protect children’s lives and futures, and the key to child survival. And, India has made significant progress in improving health indicators, particularly those related to child health. The country eliminated maternal and neonatal tetanus in 2015. Under UIP (Universal Immunization Programme), immunization is providing free of cost against 12 vaccine preventable diseases. The Government of India also launched the largest immunization programme in the world - Mission Indradhanush. The Programme also introduced new vaccines, including the Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV) and Rotavirus Vaccine (RVV). It is also rolling out a country-wide Measles-Rubella Campaign aiming to reach every child wherever they live. As we’re celebrating #WorldImmunizationWeek, IHW Council brings #IndiaImmunizationSummit 2023 along with Pfizer and Bharat Serums and Vaccines Limited (BSV) this year’s WHO theme ‘The Big Catch-Up’ to catch-up on lost progress in essential immunization, and save millions of our people from vaccine-preventable diseases.
