José Antonio Bravo, principal flutist of the National Symphony Orchestra in La Paz, has been recognized as one of Bolivia’s most influential musicians over the past several decades and into the 21st century. He premiered in Bolivia the most emblematic works written for the solo instrument and in chamber ensembles, such as the complete works for flute and orchestra by W. A. Mozart, as well as his flute quartets, and the concertos by A. Khachaturiam and J. Ibert. Presenting in this album a bold new approach to performing Bach’s masterful works, this recording – to the best of our knowledge– marks the world premiere of his sonatas arranged for solo flute without accompaniment. This interpretation offers a fresh perspective on the renowned compositions of J. S. Bach. It evokes novel emotions and experiences that are often new with regard to a harpsichord or basso continuo accompaniment.
