Scientists have identified a new species of Spinosaurus in Niger, named Spinosaurus mirabilis. Dating back around 95 million years, the fossils were found in what is now the Sahara Desert, an area once filled with rivers and wetlands. The discovery suggests these giant predators lived and hunted in freshwater environments rather than open oceans. Estimated at around 12 metres long and weighing up to seven tonnes, the dinosaur had a distinctive blade-shaped skull crest and fish-catching teeth.
