Petrouchka is a ballet composed by Igor Stravinsky (1882-1971) (one of my favourite composers) in 1910-1911 and revised in 1947. Stravinsky wrote the ballet for Les Ballets Russes, founded and directed by Sergei Diaghilev (1872-1929), for the 1911 season. Vaslav Nijinsky (1890-1950), at the time a star dancer of Les Ballets Russes, danced the premiere of Petrouchka in Paris, Théâtre de Châtelet, on 13 June 1911. The conductor was Pierre Monteux (1875-1964). This is the first recording made by Stravinsky.
