‘Wallander’ is a British crime drama broadcast on BBC One (and BBC HD (2008–10)) between 30 November 2008 and 5 June 2016. This series was adapted from the Swedish 2005 version and is the first time the Wallander stories have been adapted into an English-language production (the fourth and final series premiered on German television dubbed in German). The stories in this series follow Kurt Wallander, a police detective inspector in the small town of Ystad, Sweden, who is “an existentialist who is questioning what life is about and why he does what he does every day, and for whom acts of violence never become normal. There is a level of empathy with the victims of crime that is almost impossible to contain, and one of the prices he pays for that sort of empathy is a personal life that is a kind of wasteland,” -Kenneth Branagh.
