Pacific Northwest braces for wetter fall as NOAA predicts 71% chance of weak La Niña

Autumn leaves changing color is a signal for changing weather ahead, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Climate Prediction Center (NOAA) forecasts a 71% chance for a weak La Niña to develop, which could bring more precipitation than normal for October, November, and December. La Niña is a weather pattern that occurs when strong trade winds push warmer water on the surface of the ocean from the west coast of South America to Indonesia. As the warm ocean water shifts west, cold water deeper in the ocean rises to the surface around the South American coast. This pushes the jet stream north and impacts the weather in the Pacific Northwest. The Pacific Northwest has an equal chance of above or below-normal temperatures between October and December. There is a 33 to 40 percent chance of above-normal precipitation through the end of the year, according to NOAA. -------------------------------------------------- For more on the story: https://komonews.com/news/local/fall-... #winter #lanina #noaa #elnino #weather #winterweather #autumn #fall #temps #temperature #pnw #skiing #snowboarding _______________ Stay up to date with our social media: KOMO News on Facebook:   / komonews   KOMO News on Twitter:   / komonews   KOMO News on Instagram:   / komo4   KOMO News on TikTok:   / komo4seattle   Subscribe to KOMO on YouTube:    / @komonews   Watch more top local news stories:    • Video   For all of the day’s top local and national news, visit http://www.komonews.com/ Watch our live newscasts and other live video at https://komonews.com/watch Download our iOS App: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/komo-...
