Pope Francis began his trip to Canada by boarding a plane in a wheelchair at Rome's Fiumicino Airport and used an elevator to get on board. Once on the plane, he moved around the aisles with a cane. During his meeting with journalists on the plane, he received a helmet from the family of Spanish journalist David Beriain who was killed in Burkina Faso in 2021. Upon arrival at Edmonton International Airport, he was greeted by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Governor General Mary May Simon. The welcome ceremony was simple due to his knee problems. Pope Francis was greeted by a group who sang and played traditional music and exchanged gifts with representatives of different indigenous groups. Despite his knee and the long flight, he smiled frequently as he greeted each representative. This is his first trip to Canada and the first papal trip since 2002 when Pope St. John Paul II visited the country. 🔔 Subscribe to our channel, and activate notifications:    / @romereports   📱 The Rome Reports app is now available!
