An early show-down. The finance ministers of Greece and Germany held talks in Berlin... where the two publicly clashed on the viability of the Tsipras government′s pledge to scrap austerity. German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble said... it was not realistic to make electoral promises that burdened other countries... insisting Athens return to the arrangements reached with the EU. Greece′s Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis... said the two had not even agreed to disagree... indicating that the new leftist government remained resolute on its path. The meeting came hours after the E-C-B said it would no longer accept Greek bonds as collateral for emergency funds. Greece needs to come up with 10 billion euros for its next EU debt payment by the end of this month.
