And do not retain them to harm them or to transgress. And whoever does that has certainly wronged himself. And do not take the verses of Allah in jest. And remember the favor of Allah upon you and what He has revealed to you of the Scripture and wisdom by which He instructs you. And fear Allah And know that God is All-Knowing of everything. (231) And when you divorce women and they have reached their waiting period, do not prevent them from remarrying their former husbands if they mutually agree on a fair arrangement. This is an admonition to whoever among you believes in God and the Last Day. That is purer for you and cleaner. And God knows, while you do not know. (232) 231 - And when you divorce your wives and they are nearing the end of their waiting period; You may take them back or release them amicably, without seeking any return, until their waiting period is over. Do not take them back with the intention of assaulting or harming them, as was done in pre-Islamic times. Whoever does so with the intention of harming them has wronged himself by exposing himself to sin and punishment. Do not make a mockery of God's verses by tampering with them and disrespecting them. Remember God's blessings upon you, the greatest of which are what He has revealed to you in the Quran and Sunnah. He reminds you of these things to encourage you and to warn you. Fear God by obeying His commands and avoiding His prohibitions. Know that God is All-Knowing of everything; nothing is hidden from Him, and He will recompense you for your deeds. 232 - And if you divorce your wives with fewer than three pronouncements of divorce, and their waiting period has ended, then do not prevent them, O guardians, from returning to their husbands with a new marriage contract if they desire it and agree with their husbands. This ruling, which includes the prohibition against preventing them, is a reminder to whoever among you believes in God and the Last Day. That is more conducive to the growth of good among you and purer for your honor and deeds from defilement.
