(24 May 2017) US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Wednesday that President Donald Trump "will be really tough" on NATO allies when he meets with them in Brussels on Thursday, insisting that they meet the obligation that they agreed to of using two percent of the GDP on defense spending. Tillerson made the comments during a briefing with reporters aboard Air Force One as the president and his team left the Vatican. Tillerson said Trump will remind NATO allies that the US is spending four percent and that they need to make sure they are all doing their share. The Secretary of State also said the U.S. would like NATO to officially become part of the coalition fighting the Islamic State group, saying the administration believes "that would be a really important step for them to take." Tillerson said he believes the terror attack at a concert in Manchester, England is going to "strengthen the resolve in the fight against terrorism" among the allies.
