(14 Nov 2020) Families in Neelum Valley, in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, on Saturday surveyed what remained of their homes which were allegedly shelled by the Indian military. "The heavy shelling by the Indian forces, it was continuously firing, there was no chance to escape or salvage any belongings," said local resident Abdul Ghafoor, as families tried to clear away smouldering rubble and debris. Pakistan's military said on Friday that five civilians and an army soldier were killed by shelling from Indian troops across the highly militarized border that separates the Pakistani and Indian sides of Kashmir. The disputed border in the Himalayan region is a source of longstanding conflict between the two powers. Pakistan on Saturday accused India of sponsoring "terrorism" aimed at destabilising the country and targeting its economic partnership with China. New Delhi has likewise accused Pakistan of sponsoring militant groups that have carried out attacks inside its borders in recent years.
