The brainchild of Takako Ishimitsu, Cafe Neko (cat in Japanese) doesn't just offer customers a nice coffee with a slice of traditional Sachertorte - it throws in a few cats as well. Five furry felines roam freely in Cafe Neko, ready to be stroked and cuddled. When they are tired of all the attention, they can disappear into their own space or climb high above the tables, out of reach of the guests. Takako Ishimitsu said the idea of combining coffee with cats comes from Asia, where such establishments are common. "It also has a therapeutic side to it which I really like. And I really wanted to showcase a new idea from Japan here," she said. Customers tucking into their coffee and cake seemed to love the idea. "It's fantastic. It's great to bring the son along as well. This is really exiting for him to have a look and see the cats lying around," said Kevin Woodford, who was visiting with his son. "I have three cats myself and they way this is drawn up it's just a very cute and very good idea," said another customer. The cats themselves looked like they certainly got the coffee cream, sleeping in comfortable nooks or on people's laps. But not all guests are welcome. Dogs, which have entry to most Viennese coffee houses, have to stay outside.
