(14 Oct 1997) T/I: 10:52:55 GS 10:45:28 Surgeons at Soweto's Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital successfully separated Siamese twins on Monday (13/10) after a marathon 12-hour operation which they described as the most complex they have ever performed. The six-month-old girls, Monde and Nomonde Mokoena, were described as "very stable" by the head of the medical team and leading paediatric surgeon Dr Johan da Fonseca, who was carrying out his seventh separation.
