Human civilization is rapidly moving into the space generation – a generation that will settle, explore and learn more about the Moon, Mars, the solar system and beyond. But this new era has been a long time coming, based on decades of expertise in the technology needed to live and run technology in space. REMRED is built upon 50 years of experience in space research. REMRED is a spin-off of a pioneering Hungarian space research group – the group that helped standardise dosimetric measurement and helped Hungary’s first astronaut Bertalan Farkas achieve his goals. Founded in 2016, as a spin-off the Centre for Energy Research REMRED is Hungary’s most rapidly developing space engineering company and has gained TRL9 space flight heritage in design and development, production and verification of space equipment. The goal is to go from being a leading small space system integrator not only in Central Europe but throughout the world. REMRED has a wide range of thoroughly tested and innovative products that cover a range of areas, including supporting human space flight (for example through dosimetric measurement), measurement of space safety and space weather, and subsystem integration. REMRED is collaborating with the leading space agencies including ESA, NASA and JAXA. REMRED is currently working on a number of systems at the centre of some of the biggest upcoming space projects. For Lunar Gateway, the company will be working on the design, development, production, and verification of interface electronics for the Internal Dosimeter Array (IDA) payload, facilitating the interaction of ESA and JAXA instrumentation into one payload on board the US Halo module of the Gateway. This will launch in 2024, and be operational for 10 years on the moon. For the Mars Sample mission, REMRED will similarly be working on the interface electronics for ESA’s ERO (Earth Return Orbiter) satellite’s Space Dosimetry Telescope. The aim is to perform both cosmic radiation (space weather) and space dosimetric measurements at the same time to establish parameters for a future manned Mars mission. The launch is expected in 2026. Bringing things back to REMRED’s origins, they are also involved in the HUNOR project, which aims to send the long-awaited second Hungarian astronaut into orbit. REMRED is developing multiple new products for this mission, including PSDS (Personal Space Dosimetry System and Monitor) to enable crew dosimetry measurements even during EVAs, as well as AMCE (Astronaut Medical Control Equipment), enabling measurement and collection of data on astronauts during training, in flight and on return to earth. From being a pioneer in systems design and integration in Hungary and Eastern Europe to being at the heart of some of the most exciting projects in space science this decade, REMRED is well on their way to achieving its goal of being a global leader in small space systems integration.
