Collecting scion wood for grafting onto your fruit trees

As I am completing my winter pruning, I am also mindful of any scion wood I can obtain for grafting in springtime. This is an excellent way of increasing and expanding the range of varieties of fruit trees on your plot. (I would avoid pruning stone fruits e.g. plums, damsons, cherries, apricots etc unless absolutely necessary until late spring - so best to use bud grafting with these trees).
