Wesleyan Christian vs. Chino Hills, UA Holiday Classic Quarterfinal, 12/27/13

Chino Hills took to the court against Wesleyan Christian in Friday's Under Armour Holiday Classic night cap with something to prove, and the message was made loud-and-clear in a 64-44 decision. "We knew we had enough talent to compete with them," Chino Hills sophomore Lonzo Ball said. Not long after tipoff, Wesleyan Christian saw Chino Hills' talent firsthand. The Huskies erupted to an 18-11 advantage after one quarter behind Ball's seven quick points. Chino Hills extended its lead to 17 at halftime, and led by as many as 21 before intermission. Lonzo Ball and LiAngelo Ball each connected on three 3-point attempts in the first half. Lonzo went into the break with his night's total, a game-high 23 points. "Coach told me to be aggressive, get to the rim and shoot when I can," Lonzo Ball said. He found his shot from both long range and attacking the basket, and was equally aggressive on defense. All five Chino Hills players on the court at any given time swarmed passing lanes and made Wesleyan ball-handlers' paths to the lane almost impenetrable. Four Huskies hit from long range, and five Huskies scored at least eight points. Joining Lonzo Ball in double-figures were Nnamdi Okongwu and Bishop Mency, both of whom notched 10 points. Wesleyan star Theo Pinson scored 18 points, a little over half of his Classic-leading 35-point effort on Day 1. Teammate Donovan Gilmore added 16 points, but otherwise, the Huskies successfully shut down the rest of the Trojans. Official tournament summary by Kyle Kensing.
