The farmers' tractor rally on Republic Day in New Delhi that was meant to be peaceful and a platform to express their demands, took a violent turn as a section of protesters broke through police barricades and entered parts of the national capital not permitted for their protest. Soon, there were clashes between the protesters and cops, during which several people were injured and vehicles overturned. The police resorted to lathicharge and fired teargas shells to disperse the protestors, but to little avail.
