Vespers is traditional afternoon or evening prayers sung in Latin. On Sundays or major feast days it may be 'solemn'. At Solemn Vespers the celebrant will be more formally attired in his cope and usually have assistants, also incense and candles are used in the service. Solemn Vespers often is followed by the Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, at which the congregation are blessed with the host [the bread, as in bread and wine]. That service is then referred to as 'Solemn Vespers and Benediction'.
