Homily for the 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time – Liturgical Year C Date: 11/16/2025 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time | Homily by Fr. Anderson Gomes - Proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus --- Proclamation and reflection on the Gospel of Saint Luke 21:5-19. Discourse on the ruin of Jerusalem. Introduction — 5 As some were saying about the Temple that it was adorned with beautiful stones and votive offerings, he said: 6 “You are contemplating these things… Days will come when not one stone will be left upon another that will not be thrown down!” 7 Then they asked him: “When will this be, Teacher, and what will be the sign that these things are about to happen?” The Precursor Signs — 8 He replied: “Watch out that you are not deceived. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am he,’ and, ‘The time is near.’ Do not follow them. 9 When you hear of wars and insurrections, do not be frightened. These things must happen first, but the end will not come immediately.” 10 Then he said to them, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. 11 There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful sights and great signs from heaven. 12 But before all this, they will arrest you and persecute you and hand you over to synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors because of my name. 13 This will be your opportunity to bear witness. 14 So make up your mind not to premeditate your defense. 15 For I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict. 16 You will be betrayed even by your father and mother, brothers, relatives and friends, and they will put to death some of your own people, 17 and you will be hated by everyone because of my name. 18 But not a hair of your head will perish. 19 By your perseverance you will gain your lives.” Lives!
