Motorist credits MPPD officers with saving her life

Mount Pleasant, SC – On December 2, 2022, PFC Aton and PFC Schoonmaker responded to the area of HWY 17 N for a possible Drunk Driver. PFC Schoonmaker located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop due to the vehicle striking the curb multiple times and failing to maintain its lane. Once the vehicle stopped, contact was made with the driver, Tamara Palmer. Ms. Palmer did not have any indications of being impaired by alcohol or drugs. While speaking to her, the officers realized she continuously complained of a headache. The officers determined that Ms. Palmer was possibly having a medical episode and requested an ambulance. On February 19, 2023, Ms. Palmer reached out to the Mount Pleasant Police Department for a follow up. She stated that once she was at the hospital, they located a brain tumor. She stated that she immediately underwent an 8 hour procedure and is doing great. Ms. Palmer feels that these officers absolutely saved her life. Without their quick analysis of the situation, the outcome could have ended differently.
