And that includes bringing together representatives of the regime and the opposition in Geneva in the coming weeks to agree on a transitional body which would allow a transfer of power from Assad to this governing body." 4. Syria's history is being written in the blood of her people and it is happening on our watch. The world urgently needs to come together to bring the killing to an end. So we welcome (Russian) President Putin's agreement to join an effort to achieve a political solution. If in fact IRS (Internal Revenue Service) personnel engaged in the kind of practices that have been reported on, and were intentionally targeting conservative groups, then that's outrageous. And there's no place for it. And they have to be held fully accountable because the IRS as an independent agency requires absolute integrity, and people have to have confidence that they're applying it in a non-partisan way." 9. Obama and Cameron shake hands at end of news conference and walk out of East Room STORYLINE: British Prime Minister David Cameron was at the White House on Monday, meeting with US President Barack Obama. In a news conference following the meeting, the two leaders said they discussed a range of topics, but focused primarily on the global economy, the upcoming G-8 summit and Syria. Obama said the US was working with Britain to keep pressure on the government of Syria, strengthen the moderate opposition there and work to push for the end of the hardline regime of President Bashar Assad. He called the violence there appalling and said Western allies would work to strengthen the hand of moderate opposition to Assad's leadership. "Together we're going to continue our efforts to increase pressure on the Assad regime, to provide humanitarian aid to the long suffering Syrian people, to strengthen the moderate opposition and to prepare for a democratic Syria without Bashar Assad," Obama said.
